Yoga has many benefits, of course. We take yoga in small doses (say, one or two times per week, three times a week, etc.) to reduce stress hormones, decrease cortisol, raise levels of antioxidant enzymes, inhibit heart disease, reduce pain, and decrease pain tolerance.
We need to do some serious research on the benefits of yoga and how they may benefit women. For instance, it appears that women can be happier with themselves than with their bodies and that yoga helps to relieve muscle strain. They might see yoga as an exercise instead of as a lifestyle choice.
Many of America’s biggest yoga gyms, especially in the West, are dedicated to teaching yoga to women. But as the number of people doing yoga in the United States grows, the numbers of women who are taking yoga have dropped dramatically.
In fact, only about 20 percent of all women who do yoga in the United States actually do yoga in bed. So the yoga industry is becoming more and more popular, and it seems that the industry is growing, too. That’s because there are more people with “hipster” looks going to yoga studios, though the number of people who take yoga seriously are much lower.
